1. Safety first

The power supply equipment provides isolation function to ensure the safety of the power supply equipment and avoid danger from high-voltage feeders. This safety of the power supply equipment is achieved by the power transformer In addition, double isolation is used between the primary and secondary coils of the transformer to ensure maximum safety.

2. Reliability

People often simply demand the lifespan of power products, but in fact, there are many factors that affect the lifespan of power products, such as average load rate, vibration, and surrounding environmental temperature. Among them, the ambient temperature is very important, so the total heat generated by the internal components of the power supply is crucial. If the power supply device is equipped with a suitable heat sink and has no thermal cycling, and operates continuously below full load, the power supply can have a longer lifespan. Ensure that the power supply operates under appropriate conditions, as long as this is achieved, there is no need to consider the short lifespan of electrolytic capacitors.

3. Power factor correction

Another key performance element of power supply is its power factor.

There are two main power factor correction (PFC) methods available:

The first method is to use a simple coil at the input end;

The second method is to use a special electronic power factor correction circuit.

Therefore, as a planning and selection engineer, it is necessary to search for power supply products that comply with international standards, including the emission standards EN55011-BtEN55022-B and the standards EN61000.3.2 related to high-order harmonic emission pollution in the power grid.

4. Surge protection

The power supply should use separate surge protection devices to prevent high voltage peak surges, such as lightning strikes.

Some switch mode power supplies now provide surge protection as defined in EN61000-4-4 and EN61000-4-5, which are built-in surge protection functions.

5. Overload and short circuit protection

A good power supply can provide a minimum of 5% overload protection, and the ideal scenario is to provide 10% overload protection.

The first option is to start the pause circuit when the power supply is overloaded. When the overload situation disappears, the power supply will restart and resume normal operation. This design is suitable for low current devices.

The second option is that for larger power devices, a method called "constant current" power supply is a better choice for overload protection. In this case, when the power supply is constantly forced to supply a constant current, the power supply device reduces its output voltage.

6. Easy to use

An additional common requirement for power equipment is easy to assemble termination. Micro shell design and universal width input voltage range. The front panel is equipped with input and output connections, and can be inserted with touch reliable terminal components, making it easy to assemble/replace input fuses and adjust output voltage.
